Mao-Sheng Ran is Professor of Psychiatry at Mental Health Center, West China Hospital, Sichuan University. He gained medical degrees at West China University of Medical Sciences and a PhD at The University of Hong Kong. He is chair of Culture, Stigma and Discrimination, World Association of Cultural Psychiatry (WACP), board member of World Psychiatric Association-Transcultural Psychiatry Section (WPA-TPS), and associate director of Ethnic Psychology and Psychiatry Group and Psychosocial Service Research Group, Chinese Society of Psychiatry, Chinese Medical Association (CMA-CSP). He is founder and principal investigator of Chengdu Mental Health Project (CMHP), a longitudinal mental health project in China. He is a handling editor of Social Psychiatry and Psychiatric Epidemiology. Major research interests: Sociocultural psychiatry, Community mental health services, Stigma and discrimination, Psychosocial intervention, Psychiatric epidemiology, Disaster events and mental health, and Suicide. He has received numerous research grants (e.g., World Health Organization, National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Mental Health, General Research Fund, Public Policy Research Funding Scheme, and American Foundation for Suicide Prevention). He has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers and 9 books/chapters.
